Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine use a whole-person approach to help prevent and treat illness and injury.
DOs, are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. Emphasizing the whole-person approach to care, they are trained to listen and partner with their patients to help them get healthy and well.
DOs receive special training in the musculoskeletal system, your body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. This advanced training provides DOs with an understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others.
Osteopathic physicians focus on prevention, tuning into how a patient’s lifestyle and environment can impact their well-being.DOs strive to help you be truly healthy in mind, body and spirit.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a set of hands-on techniques used by Osteopathic Physicians (DOs) to diagnose, and treat illness or injury. A DO moves a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure, and resistance.

Cranial osteopathy (also called cranial therapy or craniosacral therapy) is one variety of osteopathic manipulative therapies. It stimulates healing by using gentle hand pressure to manipulate the skeleton and connective tissues, especially the skull and sacrum.
High Velocity Low Amplitude
High velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) is a technique which employs a rapid, targeted, therapeutic force of brief duration that travels a short distance within the anatomic range of motion of a joint and engages the restrictive barrier in one or more places of motion to elicit release of restriction.
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Strain-Counter Strain is a hands-on treatment that attempts to alleviate muscle and connective tissue tightness by the use of very specific treatment positions held for 90 seconds. During the procedure, the involved tissue is "slackened" causing a relaxation of the "spasm" which, in turn, allows local areas of inflammation, trapped within the painful tissue to dissipate. Following this "release" there is an immediate reduction of pain and tension in the involved tissue. This relaxation aims to restore normal joint mobility and release other structures in the region that may have been compressed.
Facilitated Positional Release
A system of indirect myofascial release treatment. The component region of the body is placed into a neutral position, diminishing tissue and joint tension in all planes, and an activating force (compression or torsion) is added.
Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a gentle manual therapy intervention that mobilizes joints and relaxes muscles using subtle muscle contractions to relax hypertonic tissue and mobilize joints through active participation of both the doctor and patient.
